Do you want to…

Learn what makes magic sand?

Experiment with Bouncing Bubbles?

Make your own soap?

Make your own lip gloss?

Learn about disappearing ink?

Make your own Alka-Rocket?

Find out how to do all of these – and more – at ChemFest on October 26 -27 at Carnegie Science Center . Kids can learn all about chemistry through fun demonstrations, experiments, and activity stations. Plus, they can explore chemistry-related careers during this two-day event with companies and organizations that specialize in the field.

It’s all in celebration of National Chemistry Week ! This year’s theme is: Nanotechnology: The Smallest Big Idea in Science! What’s Nanotechnology? Come to ChemFest to find out!

ChemFest is a great event, “atom-packed” with fun land learning, so bring the entire family!

A few chemistry FUN FACTS:

• Did you know? Gold is not as rare as we think! There is enough gold in the Earth’s crust to cover the land surface of the planet knee-deep!

• What is an Element? A substance that cannot be decomposed into simpler substances. In an element, all the atoms have the same number of protons or electrons although the number of neutrons may vary. There are 92 naturally-occurring elements. Oxygen…Carbon…Nitrogen…Phosphorous…Zinc…Lead… How many can YOU name?

• Water actually expands as it freezes. An ice cube takes up about 9% more volume than the water used to make it.

• Lightning strikes produce O3, which is ozone, and strengthen the ozone layer of the atmosphere.

• If you pour a handful of salt into a full glass of water, the water level will actually go down rather than overflowing the glass.

Pretty cool, huh? Learn more fun facts at ChemFest at Carnegie Science Center…see you there!
