The Avocado Test
We all know the typical avocado ripeness test. It’s the same way that you would test pears or oranges. You just squeeze them and try to feel if it is ready. But what if there was an easier way to figure it out? Well, here’s how we can figure it out. Check under the stem. Just peel back the small stem, or cap, at the top of your avocado. If it’s green underneath you’re avocado is good and ripe. Go ahead and make your world-famous guacamole. If it’s not and it’s brown, chances are it’s overripe. If you can’t even peel back the stem, the fruit isn’t ripe yet. Don’t believe us? Go to Kuhn’s, buy some avocados and try it out yourself.
Do you find yourself having to throw away half of your potatoes before you even get to use them? - Bake it! – Baking fish is super easy, but takes a little bit longer than normal.
- Grill It! – Make sure you use a non-stick spray on your grill gates though!
- Sautee It! – You are sure to get the same delicious flavor with half of the calories.
Who says that eating healthy has to be boring? Everyone loves macaroni and cheese! Plus, it’s completely meat free. Do yourself a favor and toss out that boxed stuff. Treat yourself with this delectable baked macaroni and cheese recipe. Plus, you can pick up everything you need from your local Kuhn’s! How much easier can you get?
What You Need:
- 2 cups milk
- 2 tablespoons butter
- 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
- ½ teaspoon salt
- ¼ teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
- 1 (10-ounce) block extra sharp Cheddar cheese, shredded
- ¼ teaspoon ground red pepper (optional)
- ½ (16-ounce) package elbow macaroni, cooked
What To Do:
- Preheat oven to 400° F. Microwave milk on High for 1.5 minutes. Melt butter in a large skillet over medium-low heat; whisk in flour until smooth. Cook, whisking constantly for one minute.
- Gradually whisk in warm milk, and cook, whisking constantly for 5 minutes or until thickened.
- Whisk in salt, black pepper, 1 cup shredded cheese, and if desired, red pepper until smooth; stir in pasta. Spoon pasta mixture into a lightly greased 2-quart baking dish; top with remaining cheese.
- Bake for 20 minutes or until golden and bubbly.
Get Some Egg-cellent Freshness
When you’re making your breakfast, you want to make sure you’re using only the freshest ingredients. But a lot of the time, finding those fresh ingredients is the hardest part. When it comes to checking your eggs for freshness, though, we’re here to help. Next time you pick up a carton of eggs from Kuhn’s, just do the water test! Drop the egg in a bowl of water. A fresh egg will sink on their sides, that mean it’s too fresh to hard-boil it. If when the egg sinks it’s either tilted or completely upright, it is a bit older but ready for hard-boiled perfection!
